Moondance

I would love to dance among the stars,
sprinkle stardust over the earth,
light up minds and be-glitter hairstyles.
I would love to walk around the moon
feel its soft white moondust under my feet
like white sand between my toes,
melt into its surface so we are one,
and look down on earth and see this moonshine
brighten fields like daylight,
lighting the way through the dark woods,
like a spotlight on the stage of life,
picking out the rabbits and scuttling mice
running for shelter of burrows,
escaping the foxes.
I would like to see the wonder in so many eyes
shining with awe as I track across the skies,
see the effect a blue moon has on lovers
around the world,
every month of every year,
yet always surprising, always amazing,
a magnetic invisible force
drawing in the tides
lighting white horses riding on dark waves.
On full moon nights
I flick a little lunacy into people’s minds,
keep them from sleep,
pluck babies from their watery wombs
with my intensity and power.
A steady circle
set within a tempestuous, clear or cloudy sky
here we’d be together
sprinkling a little magic
from the North Pole to the South
from the East to the West
lighting the dark shadows
of the earth and mind
so all are moonstruck.
